Colonialism, restitution, reparation – they all sound familiar. DAS LEERE GRAB shows what these terms mean for those who are affected by them: the fact that tens of thousands of human remains from former colonies are still found in German museums is a consequence of the fact that German colonial crimes have been dealt with far too little. It is a cause for great pain for descendants who have been deprived of their own history. With a respectful eye, the directors follow two families from Tanzania who are fighting for restitution, as well as activists in Berlin who are trying to make their voices heard.
